HD reconstruction is a complex process that requires a lot of computing power and memory. The hardware requirements for the HD mode can be found here.
In order for the algorithm to perform optimally, an adequate GPU is required: a modern NVIDIA graphics card with at least 2GB of VRAM (for Artec Eva) or at least 4GB of VRAM (for Artec Leo).
For optimal calculation times, an NVIDIA card with a CUDA compute capability of at least 6.1 and 8+ GB of VRAM is highly recommended.
Since HD scans have more points and require more RAM, a minimum of 32 GB RAM is recommended for a smooth post-processing experience.
When working with larger projects and higher-than-default HD Data Density values, having 64+ GB RAM is highly recommended.
Possible issues and solutions:
Artec Studio will determine whether or not the installed GPU, driver, or CUDA version is supported by the HD mode. In case of an inadequate GPU (or incompatible driver version), the CPU will be used for the calculations instead, and the user will receive the following warning message: "HD reconstruction may take several hours".
Please consult this article in order to resolve the issue.
A short, manual test can also be performed in order to ensure that the HD reconstructing is using the GPU (and not the CPU):
- a) For Eva – enable the “Use HD reconstruction” option in the Scan panel:
b) For Leo – enable "Record HD data" in Settings. - Record ~100 frames (Eva), or ~800 frames (Leo, with HD setting on 1/8).
- a) For Eva – Close the Scan panel to run the HD reconstruction algorithm.
b) For Leo – Import the project with the "Use HD Reconstruction" checkbox enabled. - Make sure that HD data appears in the workspace after the algorithm is complete.
- Calculate the FPS reconstruction rate (a measure of how many raw frames the algorithm can process per second) by dividing the exact number of frames by the time elapsed during HD reconstruction.
The table below is structured into three groups, based on the HD reconstruction speed/performance of each GPU:
Slow: 1.5 - 2.5 FPS
Normal: 2.5 - 4.5 FPS
Fast: 4.5 FPS and higher
If the reconstruction speed is slower than 1 frame per second, your GPU is most likely not being used.
Please refer to this article for instructions on updating your GPU driver.
