Artec Studio 15: System Requirements

This article will assist you in selecting the optimal hardware for your 3D scanning and post-processing needs for Artec Studio 15/15.1

Introduced in Artec Studio 15.1, the HD mode (High Definition mode) is a completely new algorithm that greatly enhances the quality of Artec Eva and Artec Leo scans. Performed on raw Eva or Leo scans, "HD reconstruction" is a complex process that requires a lot of computing power and memory.

A list of general hardware and software requirements can be found further below.

OS
  • Windows 7, 8 or 10 (x64)
  • Windows 10 (x64) is required for Artec Micro scanner.
  • Artec Studio can be installed on Apple computers
by using Boot Camp (MacOS is not supported)

(!) Windows 11 is not supported

USB
  • Artec Micro: 1x USB 3.0 or 3.1 port (type A).
The Artec Micro will not work with a USB 2.0 port
  • Artec Ray: 1x USB 2.0, 3.0, or 3.1 port (type A)
  • Artec Eva, Artec Eva Lite, Artec Spider and Artec Space Spider: 1 x USB 2.0 port (type A).
(USB 3.0 and 3.1 compatibility information)

Important note: USB 3.1 compatibility is not guaranteed, please use Artec USB Kit

CPU
  • min. Intel Core i5 (76xx and later)
  • Intel Core i7
  • Intel Core i9
  • AMD Ryzen, Threadripper, and Intel Xeon CPUs

(!) There is a known issue with the following CPUs and Artec Leo -> resolved in Artec Studio 16

11th generation Intel Core i5, i7, i9 - 11XXX
Mobile 10th generation i3, i5, i7- 10XXGX

RAM
  • min. 12 GB for Artec Eva (SD mode), min. 32 GB for Artec Eva (HD mode)
  • min. 18 GB for Artec Spider
  • min. 32 GB for Artec Leo, Artec Micro, and Artec Ray (64 GB highly recommended)

HD mode for Artec Eva and Artec Leo (available in Artec Studio 15.1 and higher)

Graphics/video cards
  • NVIDIA graphics card with at least 2GB of VRAM (for Artec Eva) or at least 4GB of VRAM (for Artec Leo/ Artec Micro).
For optimal calculation times, an NVIDIA card with a CUDA compute capability of at least 6.1 and  8+ GB of VRAM is highly recommended.

Recommended NVIDIA drivers:

NVIDIA GeForce

NVIDIA Quadro

445.87

441.66

Not supported:

  • OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS, any 32-bit OS, Windows 11
  • Virtual Environments (Windows OS installed inside a Virtual Machine) are not supported
  • Graphics/video cards: AMD FirePro M6100 Fire GL V, Intel HD 4600
  • CPUs: Intel Core i7 8550U, Intel Core i5 8350U, Intel Core i7-1065G7 with integrated graphics

If the graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements (or an outdated graphics driver is installed), the HD reconstruction algorithm will be executed on the CPU instead of the GPU.
This will cause the algorithm to perform many times slower, potentially taking multiple hours to complete even the simplest calculation.

The table below features general hardware recommendations for optimal HD reconstruction speeds. The GPU section is structured into three groups, based on the HD reconstruction speed/performance of each GPU:
Slow: 1.5 - 2.5 FPS
Normal: 2.5 - 4.5 FPS
Fast: 4.5 FPS and higher
(The FPS reconstruction rate is a measure of how many raw frames the algorithm can process per second, and can be calculated by dividing the number of frames by the time elapsed during HD reconstruction).

(!) HD reconstruction works on Nvidia GeForce RTX 30х0 Series cards only in Artec Studio version 15.1.2.60 and newer.
