Warning Message: "HD reconstruction may take several hours"

Possible causes:

  • incompatible, outdated, or weak GPU
  • incompatible or outdated graphics driver version

It is necessary to identify whether the HD reconstruction is using the GPU or CPU.

In order to determine this, a short test must be performed.

  1. a) For Eva – enable the “Use HD reconstruction” option in the Scan panel:

    b) For Leo – enable "Record HD data" in Settings.

  2. Record ~100 frames (Eva), or ~800 frames (Leo, with HD setting on 1/8).
  3. a) For Eva – Close the Scan panel to run the HD reconstruction algorithm.
    b) For Leo – Import the project with the "Use HD Reconstruction" checkbox enabled.
  4. Make sure that HD data appears in the workspace after the algorithm is complete.Screenshot_2020-10-22_193411.png

  5. Calculate the FPS reconstruction rate (a measure of how many raw frames the algorithm can process per second) by dividing the exact number of frames by the time elapsed during HD reconstruction.

1) If the reconstruction speed is ~1 to 2.5 frames per second (FPS), it is likely that your GPU is too weak. Please consider upgrading the GPU (or using an external eGPU case if your device is a laptop).

The table below is structured into three groups, based on the HD reconstruction speed/performance of each GPU:
Slow: 1.5 - 2.5 FPS
Normal: 2.5 - 4.5 FPS
Fast: 4.5 FPS and higher

2) If the reconstruction speed is slower than 1 frame per second (FPS), your GPU is most likely not being used at all (the algorithm is resorting to a CPU-based calculation). Please ensure that your GPU is compatible, and update the GPU drivers as described in this article.
