We recommend to calibrate/re-calibrate Artec Spider/Artec Space Spider:
- after transportation
- on a timely basis (once per year, etc., depending upon the intensity of use)
- if extra accuracy is required (up to 0.05 mm), we recommend to re-calibrate the scanner prior scanning at the same room
- using a new computer/laptop

Locating your calibration kit
The aluminum stand is in the Spider/Space Spider hard case:
The calibration board, scanner stand (clear plastic), and calibration pattern are underneath the protective foam on the very bottom of the hard case:
Calibration process
(!) for laptops with USB 3.1 please use External Calibration Tool
Before starting the calibration, be sure to fully assemble the calibration kit and place the scanner on top of the clear plastic stand. In Artec Studio, navigate to File –> Run Diagnostic Tool.
A new window will open. In the top toolbar, select Start Calibration. A popup will prompt you to enter your calibration-board serial number, which you can find at the top-right corner of the board.
After a brief warmup, the calibration will begin. Follow the on-screen prompts, which will guide you through all the positions that appear on the calibration pattern. Once you complete the process, click Apply calibration.
Locating calibration files
New calibrations are stored locally on your PC. If you need to use the scanner elsewhere, you can copy the folder with the serial number of your Spider scanner from C:\Users\<User_Name>\AppData\Roaming\Artec\Artec Installation Center\Devices\ to the same location on another PC, or recalibrate the scanner again there.
If you get the error message during the calibration: "No Markers Detected", please check the solution in the article
Cases with missing calibration item(s)
If you are missing one or more items from your calibration kit, or even the whole kit, contact us at support@artec3d.com But you can immediately replace two items with similar substitutes:
1) A plastic scanner base
As a temporary alternative, you can use any object of similar height on which to place your 3D scanner. The base is 75mm high, and the base for the board is 15mm high (the scanner should be 60mm higher than the bottom of the board)
Note that the Spider scanner must remain at the same height throughout the calibration process; otherwise, your calibration will be unsuccessful.
2) A paper with the calibration pattern
We can provide a PDF file you can print; just contact us.
In case you experience any issues with your Artec 3D scanner or require technical assistance with your device or Artec Studio, in the first instance please contact your local Artec dealer/distributor directly.
